ROVAL RS, officially named ROVAL SILVER Zinc Rich Compound, is a single component zinc rich coating developed for repairing and renovating galvanized steel. Its dry film contains 83% zinc by weight and leaves a clean silver matte finish that blends naturally with galvanized surfaces.

ROVAL RS is primarily suitable for renovating properly prepared galvanized surfaces. It may also be used as a silver topcoat over ROVAL Cold Galvanizing Compound when a galvanized appearance is required.

ROVAL RS also serves customers looking for a bright silver ZRC coating or zinc rich paint for galvanized steel repair and visible touch up work in Pakistan. Marjan Polymer Industries is the exclusive and official ROVAL distributor in Pakistan. ROVAL RS is available for industrial maintenance, steel fabrication and project supply across Pakistan.

Purpose and Applications

  • Repairing old or damaged galvanized steel after correct surface preparation
  • Restoring weld seams, cut edges and drilled areas
  • Coating bolts, nuts, brackets and other visible repair points
  • Renovating railings, pipes, frames, supports, gates and fabricated assemblies
  • Repairing damage caused during fabrication, transport or installation
  • Providing a silver finish on properly prepared galvanized surfaces

How the Zinc Rich Film Protects Steel

Most conventional coatings protect steel mainly by forming a barrier. ROVAL RS also contains metallic zinc. When the coating is in direct contact with a clean metallic surface, the zinc can corrode preferentially and help protect exposed steel around scratches and local repair areas.

This protection depends on proper surface preparation, thorough mixing and sufficient dry film thickness. A silver colour alone does not prove galvanic performance. Do not apply ROVAL RS over oil, grease, salt, loose rust, mill scale, moisture or an unsound old coating.

Surface Preparation

Correct preparation is essential because the zinc in the coating needs suitable contact with the metal.

  1. Wash away salt and water soluble contamination.
  2. Remove oil and grease with a suitable solvent cleaning method.
  3. Remove dust, loose corrosion products and any unsound coating.
  4. Prepare the repair area to expose a clean and firm metallic surface.
  5. Make sure the surface is fully dry before coating.
  6. Mix the tin thoroughly with a power paint mixer before use and during longer application periods.
Surface conditionPreparation guidance
Galvanized steel with red rust, old coating or welded areasPower tool cleaning to ISO 8501-1 St 3 to expose a clean metallic surface
New galvanized steel affected by white rustHand tool cleaning to ISO 8501-1 St 2 after removing white rust deposits
Sound galvanized steel being renovatedRemove contamination and prepare the surface as required by the current ROVAL technical data and the project specification

The governing project specification and inspection requirements take priority over general website guidance.

Mixing and Application

ROVAL RS is a single component product and does not require a separate hardener. Zinc can settle during storage, so mechanical mixing is important before application and should be repeated when needed to keep the coating uniform.

Dilution is normally unnecessary for brush or roller application. If thinning is required, use only the thinner and limit stated in the current manufacturer data. Spray nozzle size, pressure, filtration and thinning must also follow the current ROVAL Technical Data Sheet.

Apply even coats and check wet or dry film thickness where the work requires controlled corrosion protection. Allow the specified interval between coats. Protect the fresh coating from rain, dust and other contamination until it has cured.

Professional Use in Pakistan

ROVAL RS is suited to repair and maintenance work where galvanized steel is damaged during welding, drilling, cutting, transport, installation or service. Typical users in Pakistan include:

  • Steel fabricators and galvanizing contractors
  • Industrial maintenance departments
  • Power, energy and utility projects
  • Telecom and solar structure installers
  • Pipe, tank and equipment fabricators
  • Infrastructure and engineering contractors
  • Workshops repairing galvanized railings, frames, brackets and supports

For coastal, marine or severe industrial exposure, selection should not be based on appearance alone. The corrosion category, surface preparation, total coating system, inspection method and required service life must be reviewed before work begins.

Appearance and Weathering

ROVAL RS provides a silver finish intended to blend with galvanized steel. The shade may change as the zinc film weathers and forms natural zinc corrosion products. The repaired area and the original galvanizing may weather at different rates depending on exposure, surface condition and film build.

This natural change in appearance is not, by itself, evidence of coating failure.

ISO 1461 Repair Coating Context

ROVAL states that ROVAL SILVER conforms to ISO 1461 in relation to its use as a repair coating for hot dip galvanizing. This does not mean every painted surface is structurally identical to factory applied hot dip galvanizing.

Project acceptance depends on the governing specification, permitted repair method, repair area, surface preparation, film thickness and inspection requirements.

Safety, Handling and Storage

ROVAL RS is a solvent containing industrial coating. Use it with adequate ventilation and suitable personal protective equipment. Keep it away from heat, sparks, flames and other ignition sources. Avoid breathing vapour or spray mist. Prevent skin and eye contact, and do not release the product into drains or the environment.

Keep the container tightly closed in a cool, well ventilated place protected from direct sunlight. Read the current ROVAL SILVER Safety Data Sheet before handling, spraying, storage or disposal. Refer to the current ROVAL SILVER Technical Data Sheet for application details.
