ROVAL R ZRC Cold Galvanizing Compound is a single-component, ready-to-use coating for galvanic corrosion protection of properly prepared steel and galvanized repair areas. Its dry film contains 96% ±1 zinc by weight, using zinc of 99.995% purity, and forms a grey matte protective film.
Marjan Polymer Industries is the official and exclusive distributor and importer of ROVAL R ZRC Cold Galvanizing Compound in Pakistan. The product is supplied in a 2.5 kg tin for PKR 27,000. Ready stock is maintained for retail and project requirements, with collection from the MPI outlet and delivery available throughout Pakistan.
Purpose and Applications
- Cold galvanizing protection for correctly prepared new steel
- Repair of damaged or locally removed hot-dip galvanized coatings
- Protection of weld seams, cut edges, drilled holes and fabrication damage
- Coating bolts, nuts, brackets, fasteners and connection points
- Maintenance of structural steel, towers, platforms, railings, gates and supports
- On-site steel protection where transport to a galvanizing plant is impractical
- Industrial maintenance and project work in inland, urban and coastal locations
ROVAL R is not ordinary anti-rust paint. Its high-zinc dry film is intended to provide sacrificial galvanic protection when it is in direct contact with a correctly prepared metallic surface and the specified film thickness is achieved.

How ROVAL R Protects Steel
Most conventional anti-corrosion coatings protect primarily by creating a barrier between steel and the environment. If that barrier is damaged at a scratch, edge, weld or impact point, exposed steel can begin to corrode.
ROVAL R contains a very high proportion of metallic zinc in the cured film. When the coating has suitable electrical contact with a clean steel surface, zinc can corrode preferentially and help protect the steel through sacrificial galvanic action. Correct preparation, mixing, coat thickness and curing remain essential to this performance.
Surface Preparation
The zinc film must have suitable contact with the metallic substrate. Oil, grease, salts, dust, moisture, loose rust, mill scale and unsound old coating can reduce adhesion and galvanic performance.
| Surface condition | Preparation guidance |
|---|---|
| New or weathered steel | Abrasive blast cleaning to ISO 8501-1 Sa 2½ is the preferred preparation where the project and site permit it. |
| Steel repair or maintenance area | Power-tool cleaning to ISO 8501-1 St 3 where blast cleaning is not practicable and the specification permits power-tool preparation. |
| New galvanized steel affected by white rust | Remove zinc salts and prepare to ISO 8501-1 St 2 using the method stated in the current ROVAL guidance. |
| Damaged galvanized coating | Remove contamination, corrosion products and unsound material; prepare the repair boundary and exposed metal according to the governing repair specification. |
- Wash away soluble salts and water-soluble contamination.
- Remove oil and grease using a suitable cleaning method.
- Remove loose rust, scale, dust and any unsound coating.
- Prepare the surface to the required standard and expose a clean, firm metallic substrate.
- Make sure the surface is completely dry before coating.
- Mix the tin thoroughly with a power paint mixer before use and repeat mixing as necessary during application.
The governing project specification, inspection plan and manufacturer instructions take priority over general website guidance.
Mixing and Application
ROVAL R is a single-component product and does not require a separate hardener. Zinc can settle during storage, so thorough mechanical mixing is essential before application and during longer work periods.
Dilution is normally unnecessary for brush or roller application. If thinning is required, use only the thinner and maximum amount permitted by the current manufacturer data. Spray nozzle, pressure, filtration and thinning must follow the current ROVAL Technical Data Sheet.
Apply uniform coats and verify wet or dry film thickness where controlled corrosion protection is required. A typical system uses two coats at approximately 40 µm dry-film thickness per coat to achieve an 80 µm total. Allow the specified interval between coats and protect fresh coating from rain, dust and contamination until it has cured.
Professional Use in Pakistan
ROVAL R ZRC Paint is supplied for steel fabricators, galvanizing contractors, maintenance departments, engineering companies and project owners throughout Pakistan. Common sectors include:
- Power, energy and utility infrastructure
- Telecom towers and solar support structures
- Industrial plants, platforms and access systems
- Pipe, tank and equipment fabrication
- Transport, warehouse and construction steelwork
- Coastal and industrial maintenance projects
- Workshops repairing galvanized frames, railings, brackets and supports
For severe coastal, marine or chemically aggressive exposure, selection must consider the corrosion category, required service life, surface preparation, total coating system and inspection method. The product name alone does not replace an engineering coating specification.
Galvanizing-Repair Standards Context
ASTM A780/A780M includes zinc-dust paint as one permitted method for repairing damaged and uncoated areas of hot-dip galvanized coatings. ISO 1461 addresses batch hot-dip galvanized coatings and includes repair provisions. These standards do not mean that every painted surface is structurally identical to factory hot-dip galvanizing or that every application is automatically certified.
Project acceptance depends on the governing specification, permitted repair method, repair-area limits, surface preparation, dry-film thickness and inspection requirements.
ROVAL R and ROVAL RS Are Different Products
ROVAL R is the grey 96% ±1 zinc cold galvanizing compound covered on this page. ROVAL RS is the separate bright-silver zinc-rich compound used primarily for visible repair and renovation of properly prepared galvanized surfaces. Their zinc content, appearance, pack size and application purpose are not interchangeable.
Customers who require a bright silver finish should review the ROVAL RS Bright Silver Zinc Rich Compound page. The present product is ROVAL R in a 2.5 kg tin.
Safety, Handling and Storage
ROVAL R is a solvent-containing industrial coating. Use it with suitable ventilation and personal protective equipment. Keep it away from heat, sparks, flame and other ignition sources. Avoid breathing vapour or spray mist, prevent skin and eye contact, and do not release the product into drains or the environment.
Keep the container tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated place protected from direct sunlight. Review the current ROVAL R Safety Data Sheet before handling, spraying, storage or disposal. Use the current ROVAL R Technical Data Sheet for governing technical and application information.
